Founded in 1957, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) is the sole national Agri-research organization in China affiliated to MOA. For more than 50 years since its establishment, particularly since the reforms, CAAS has played an important role in solving the problems of basic, key, and applied research and research in technology and industrial development, and greatly promoted technology extension, capacity building, and research innovation system development.
As China’s national agricultural research organization, in the coming 5-10 years, CAAS with its 40 institutes and 10000 staff are determined into develop the Academy to a world-class center of excellence, to be among the leading agricultural research organizations in the world: as a source of new thoughts and theories, new ideas for research themes and strategic programs and new technologies for China’s agro-industry development; a training center for the next generation of agricultural scientists and extension experts; an incubator for technical innovation and agro-business development, and a think tank on agricultural, rural and farmers issues and agricultural R&D strategy.
