During his presentation, Dr. Petitclerc will explain Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC)’s strategic approach to science and innovation, present and discuss AAFC-Science & Technology Branch strategic objectives (increasing agricultural productivity, improving environmental sustainability, improving attributes for food and non-food uses and addressing threats to the agriculture and agri-food value chain). For each of the strategic objectives, examples of AAFC research and innovations that either are being done with China, or may be of interest to China will be presented, such as the use of canola meal in the diets of pigs and dairy cattle, the impact of precision feeding in swine production and sustainability, how pulses can contribute to improve the nutritive value of processed food, etc. These examples will relate to the Yangling International Agri-Science Forum vision statement (the 2007 Declaration) and topics of the 2015 Agri-Science Forum. Finally, priority areas for science and technology cooperation between Canada and China will be highlighted.
