QUISENBERRY, Sharron S.
Dr. Quisenberry is Vice President for Research and Economic Development at Iowa State University. She served five and a half years as Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Virginia Tech, four years as Dean of the College of Agriculture and Director of the Montana Experiment Station at Montana State University, eight years in department level administration (University of Idaho and University of Nebraska-Lincoln), and 12 years in research, teaching, and extension (Iowa State University and Louisiana State University) prior to coming back to Iowa State. Quisenberry obtained her B.S.Ed. from Truman State University, M.A. in Environmental Biology from Hood College, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in entomology from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Quisenberry is recognized nationally and internationally for her work in host plant resistance to insects and insect-plant interactions. With a colleague, she co-authored a seminal book on conservation of germplasm for insect resistance that is widely used. She has published more than 100 articles, books, and book chapters, with over 150 other technical publications, including a patent and three registered germplasm/cultivars. Quisenberry has presented over 140 lectures at international, national, and regional professional meetings. She has received more than $10 million in funding for research as principal and co-principal investigator from NIH, NSF, USDA, Murdock Trust, Ford Foundation, and industry.
Dr. Quisenberry, as Vice President for Research and Economic Development, leads the University research enterprise. Her responsibilities are to grow Iowa State University’s Research Enterprise by enhancing faculty funding and networking opportunities, and improving infrastructure, and services related to research. The research goal of the University is to serve the people of the state and beyond by enhancing the vitality and sustainability of research scholarship, revitalizing rural families and communities, improving human and animal health and nutrition, and enhancing the quality of our environment. The transfer of technology from the ISU Research Enterprise will ultimately lead to the enhancement of innovation and economic development in Iowa.
Quisenberry is a member of the Entomological Society of America, has served on numerous branch and national committees, and is past President. She holds the distinction of both Fellow and Honorary Member of the Entomological Society of America. Dr. Quisenberry has served on the National Academy of Sciences’ Board on Agriculture and Natural Resources, the Board for International Food and Agriculture Development, and numerous other international, national, regional, and state boards and committees |
