Research Interests:
My research interests encompass respiratory viruses that are globally important to human health and food security. These are focused on human respiratory syncytial virus (HRSV), influenza A virus (IAV), infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) and porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV). More recently we have also started investigating Crimean Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV). We pioneered the use of quantitative proteomics to understand how viruses interact with the host. We also pursue translation work centered on small molecule inhibitors of virus biology and the development of diagnostic reagents based on recombinant expressed viral antigens. This work is funded by research grant income from the Medical Research Council (MRC) and the Health Protection Agency.
Professional Activities:
Member of the Panel of Experts for the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and panel member for the European Cooperation in Science and Technology
